Meet Carrie, 40: Read How Her Son Inspired Her To Run Her First 5K
Carrie finally got the motivation she needed to become a runner. Her son and family gave her the inspiration and drive to push through life’s challenges and run her first 5K!
How did you hear about us?
A co-worker recommended your 5k app to me.
Which app is helping, or has helped you, succeed?
Tell us about your success!
I’m 40 years old and have attempted to start running several times when I was in my twenties and thirties, all attempts ending in failure very shortly after the beginning.
A few months ago, my 16-year-old son came to me with a concern for children around the world who are being sold into the trafficking industry. He wanted to do something about it and asked for my help.
I was aware of a non-profit organization that combines running and fundraising to help rescue kids from the streets of South East Asia. So my son and I signed up to run a 5k together and raise money for these kids!
I knew I needed help to accomplish the race. That’s where your app came in. A co-worker recommended it, and I LOVE it! It has been exactly what I needed to get me running and to keep me running. I have completed the 8 weeks of the 5K Runner app and am ready to run the 5k with my son this Saturday. Can’t thank you enough for creating such an awesome motivator and tool!
Tell us something that inspires you
When I look at my family, I am inspired to keep running to stay healthy. I don’t want to just be around for my kids and grandkids; I want to enjoy them!
What advice would you give a first timer?
Don’t give up!
Every week you’ll feel better and better. You’ll have so much more energy! I would also advise adding some cross training (I bike or swim on days I don’t run) and some strength training to help avoid being sidelined by an injury.
What was your biggest struggle and how did you overcome it?
My biggest struggle was my asthma and my aging body. An inhaler helped with the asthma, and I found running actually increased my lung capacity which helped my asthma as well. Strength training with resistance bands has helped my aging body be stronger to run.
What’s your favorite workout song?
